Dude, it’s time to upgrade to a DVR (digital video recorder) which works with digital TV. VCR’s can’t do what you mentioned.
Yes,
been doing it for the last 5 years with both VCR and also with a TIVO (a nice solution).
The Digibox plugs into the AV socket of the VCR.
- set the time/channel on the digibox timer
- set the same time and the AV channel on the VCR
and both will change and set to the correct channel at the same time
It maybe easier/cheaper to buy either
- a TIVO off ebay and add a digibox (gives you better version of Freeview plus)
- a Digital PVR that records onto a hard disk… Humax and Tvonics make excellent ones from 90-100 pounds upwards.
But yes, can be done…
Edit:
one thing to watch, is that many digibox’s use the same remote control…
fine if you only have digibox for the VCR and built in freeview TV
but if using two digiboxes, make sure their type of remote does not work both boxes.. (they may look different.. but work the same)
While you can record onto video from digital TV no problems, you cannot watch another channel from the set top box itself.
If your area still has analogue signals, then you will be able to watch the standard analogue channels (BBC, ITV, CH4 and 5 if you get 5) through your TV tuner. But that will be all.
If your Tv has its own Freeview tuner, then you will be able to watch any channel – the standard ones and the digital ones, regardless of whether your area has switched over. You just have to watch from the TV’s tuner.
If your area has switched over and your TV has no built in Freeview, then I’m afraid in that case you will only be able to watch what is being recorded.

Yes, but you need two digital set-top-boxes, one for the TV to watch direct, the other for the recorder. They should be different brands to not have conflicting IR remote codes.
A TiVo is brand of a DVR not sold in the UK anymore.
