The Truth About HDTV Signal Strength Reception Issues

on Mar15 2011

Everyone must understand that when I originally made this video, it was just a small part of a long DVD that I was making for a relative. I actually hadn’t intended to put it on YouTube. I made it several months before everybody ‘had’ to receive digital TV signals. When ever I would speak to people about DTV, most of them had never tried it yet. That’s when I decided to upload this video as an example of what I had been experiencing (WITH a roof mounted antenna). It has now been over a year since all stations have made the full conversion to digital. I guess today I can say I receive acceptable signals about 80% of the time. The following is my original description of this video: On Feb 4th 2009 the government decided to push the transition date up to June 12, claiming the poor and rural areas are not ready. I personally think it is the TV stations that are not ready. The apparent problem is that the digital signals do not travel nearly as well over long distances as do the analog signals. My neighbors and I have spent over 6 months trying to find a good way to recieve HDTV signals. Originally my analog reception was received with rabbit ears and it worked fine. When I got a digital converter box that antenna was totally useless. I then obtainned an HD antenna. With the HD antenna, inside of the house the reception was unsatisfactory. So I moved it to the attic, which was a little better. Eventually I had to errect the antenna onto the roof of the house. The roof mounted

“There is nothing wrong with your television, we control the transmission, we can adjust the horizontal control we control the vertical,” accepted in the Outer Limits.Ich have my own antenna and I get 97% signal strength in the city, a city 119 miles away. I was just outside with a rotor.

yes, better reception, but I think the only reason for the change was in order to win money. You should enable analog TV again. They want you to buy a digital converter. It gives them money.

@ Drama Herald Thanks, but my grandfather only the DTV for a day or two, then just decided to buy cable. And since then, has now moved away, but the proposals sound interesting though for future use. Thanks.

If your father is in a closed room or outside his home to try pointing the antenna well to the confined space such as an air, or similar to the HDTV signal bounce more. This is my experience after 7 antennas all around in the lower Financial District of San Francisco. If the enclosed area for metal walls and open top, it should work well. Move the antenna a few inches to the right or left, and he should be different this helps Stationen.Hope & great video!

@ Psiguynow I want to know if there is a “class action” for this. The gov. lied to us to receive over 100 channels. And I wish they would have earlier you inform us, i wouldn `t have to have rid of my roof antenna. And in 2010, think we need to do a damn roof antenna. . . We `re back in time.

@ KingfisnPunk Exactly! What will we do when we no longer be sure that the thoughts we think are our own?

@ Skibble5150 The Hill Billy “was the Entertainer of the Year more than once (I think). And he is actually tearing a guitarist. In retrospect, I cut his song to the right when he go into the solo, and I probably should have included the. I know you’re a metal head (and I am) but you really should check out to him. His name is Brad Paisley, and he has a YouTube channel. thx

@ Pain Fulton Ok, I hear the “bad sarcasm. In all reality, when I took this picture, it was not with the intention of it on YouTube. It was actually a family video I was making for a relative with an hour of content birthdays, sunsets, recitals and the like. After I did it, I have been inspired to share with the world, since at that time many people had not yet begun to change yet. I thought making a video about antennas, but I am busy in other things at the moment. . . thx

Why is everyone talking, “range” signals and “weak” or “strong.” Depending on the circumstances, can someone completely reliable DTV reception in more than 50 miles. but someone less than a mile away from the transmitter can be convicted, the problem with indoor antennas do not signal strength, it is MULTIPATH! DTV will give you trouble if a stone or metal wall between the antenna and the station, so simple.

  12. 12 CCRider100 on March 15, 2011 10:58 am

@ Melann2009 “The key to DTV reception is not the TV or the tuner. It is the antenna. An outdoor antenna is a must anywhere more than 20 miles from the transmitter.” high-gain antenna is a must if you are weak digital signals to the signal via the digital cliff (a little work on a db NM usually) a good TV tuner (built after 2007) obtained & # XF6 reporting; can be just as important, however, have since been lower noise figure, and deal with multipath much better. Excessive noise is the enemy of digital television

It’s too bad for you buddy, but it has really improved my own experiences, maybe if you ask for help, rather than just throw a fit (with bad sarcasm) you might get somewhere. to overcome serious, and conquer men, use the bean in your skull, you make everyone else look bad. . . DTV has more channels for free, and your going to cry because you do not adapt and overcome. . . Hugh.

I forgot to mention that at my location, the same stations were placed in an analog snow unwatchable mess. With digital, the video quality is consistent and the HD is jaw drop. I understand that unfortunately some people who find it more difficult than getting their analog channels, but you can not stop technological progress. Converting to digital stores stations operating on energy costs while a higher quality. OTA HD is amazing.

@ Vagextrol “The curvature of the earth is only a 60-70 miles range” This has been designed as a fact on the Internet is and is not true. I get 10 channels from 115 miles Signalstärke.Oh with 4 channels at 85-100%, and the antenna on the Dachboden.Ja, it depends on your site, but if people seriously want to be much improved HD quality, then some effort is required. Get the best antenna for your location channels and set it as high as possible is a good start.

Digital TV is the future and it is here to stay. We are all sorry that you do not live near a city, but I live in the vicinity and my reception is rock solid and the picture, just amazing. Would it not be different. Goodbye fluff. . . forever!

Analog should, but only a stepping stone towards an unlimited digital system will never really gave up.

    I miss the old fluff. . .

The FCC must be total denial. This is the experience in hearing from all over the country. – Also the validity of the emergency broadcasting system, thereby reducing these weak signals should be illegal. I wonder if there are complaints? What a waste of taxpayers’ money. We want our analog back. But I think it’s too late, because they already sold the old frequencies. It’s about money and / or cable company bribes it seems. Lamed!

What annoys me is before I bought the digital conversion boxes, hooked them to my external antenna and built a hanger. I was glad I was able to get 19 channels with either one, most with very high signal strength. The day of the changeover I lost 6 of this completely lost, and signal strength in all other. The hanger can now receive only about 4. Do all power stations to their digital signals after the change?

  22. 22 gr8fzy1 on March 15, 2011 3:32 pm

I agree completely, we have a $ 80 dollars, 50 + mile antenna from Radio Shack. . . it worked a little. . . got to bring us back to two of the four stations we. . . . then the signal amplifier, the antenna shorted out NEEDED. And they would not go back. We are again a number of amplified rabbit ears and now have a station.

  23. 23 gr8fzy1 on March 15, 2011 4:31 pm

I feel you man. . . with analog TV, we had 4 stations. Digital came and settled on one. . . and we have stuck with the antenna in our window. Tried mounting the antenna outside on our second floor porch, but we live on a hill in the city, and our neighbors are blocking the signal! We are a stop on our set that tone and freezes lose any time put a car passes our street. Thanks Big Brother. . .

“These signals may work well if you live in the same city, the TV tower, but my house is completely surrounded by trees, and when the leaves are wet, k & # XF6, you can always forget a signal “cases THOSE FUCKING TREES..

Interesting, but not necessary, even a 1 minute clip of a hillbilly guitar playing in a hat.
